GIUSEPPE CAUDULLO
<<Satyrs and monsters, lacerated bodies and souls that run away, raped women and ferocious men… are the pictorial subjects that populate the fantastic world of Giuseppe Caudullo. Picassian in the formal style, neo-baroque in gestures and expression, the young artist paints and shapes his creatures on any support and with the materials that are better suitable to his plastic needs.
With the ceramics in particular he succeeded in combining the brightness of the colour with the strong chiaroscuro effects of the modelling.
The figures are never modest inside the iconic space but overrun the surface area getting over the borders.>> It is for this reason that the compositions of Caudullo seem fragments of a visual scenery that goes beyond the limits of the pictorial dimension and crosses the spaces of the everyday reality. His people of figures is not in fact not related to the problems of the present life. His works have the colour and the gesture, the vivacity and the expression of the vital flow of our days.
It seems that in some complex and articulate scenes we can get the convulsive spirit that characterizes our cities, it seems that we can see the blood that sometimes flows for the violence, the abuses of power, the lack of respect for the human life. Some figures with strong plasticity get free from the places of constraint and turn to the observer with a rending cry. You get the feeling of being called, involved in the painting area.
The colours are always warm and earthy and tell about the blood and the fire. The matter is attacked by the artist with the same impetuousness by which the expression occurs. Caudullo has not a quiet and relaxed brush stroke, he paints impetuously, without after thoughts. In the same way he shapes the plastics, sinking its same body into the soft clay.
One would say that his work is entirely intent on telling, with the irrepressible rhythm of the life, the beat of the earth and its daily encounter with the sun.
The whole time frame of the existence is expressed by the coloured plans, by the engraved signs, by the solid material. The artist tells about the life and the death, the flourishing of the existence and of the ash that, for a prefixed fate, inevitably will settle on every face.
It ‘a message of wisdom aimed to make us understand how is useful for the humans to respect, in the short span of light that is given to us, the balance of creation.
